SCC UK elects Mats Torstendahl as new Chair

10 June 2026

On 10 June 2026, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce for the UK held its 119th Annual General Meeting, formally electing Mats Torstendahl, Head of SEB UK, as the new Chair of the Chamber. He succeeds Peter Jelkeby of IKEA, who has served as Chair since 2022.

“It is a great honour to be elected Chair of the Chamber. SCC UK plays an important role in connecting Swedish and British business, and I look forward to contributing to its continued development together with the Board, team, patrons, and members,” says Mats.

For Mats, the role of Chair is about shared responsibility and strong Board collaboration. “It’s very important that it becomes a collective responsibility – not one person’s responsibility. The Chair is one voice around the table, helping the Board work well together in support of the Chamber, rather than trying to be the Board on his own.” He also notes that he steps into the role at a good moment: “It’s like the table is set, and I’m invited for dinner.”

“We are delighted to see Mats elected as the next Chair,” says Adine Grate, Chair of the SCC UK Nomination Committee. “His international experience, understanding of Swedish–British business and proven leadership make him exceptionally well placed to lead the Chamber in the coming years. As a senior representative of SEB – a longstanding Patron of the Chamber – he also brings valuable continuity and a strong heritage of close connection to our community.”

SEB is a leading Swedish brand internationally, and their continued leadership within the Chamber underlines the strength and long-term commitment of Swedish business in the UK. “As a Swedish bank with deep roots and a long-term presence in the UK, SEB is proud to be part of strengthening the Swedish brand abroad,” says Mats. “Sweden is known for innovation, reliability and trust, and I look forward to continuing to promote these values together with the Chamber and its community."
